Fabulous Foundations!

If you have been reading my posts lately, you’d already know that I have been on a bit of a picnic foray. And, just when I thought I was all picnicked out, suddenly I have reason to write some more :)

But…wait for it…this time I’ve mixed it up and there is an angle. Yes!!! Absolutely no completely boring you with yet another Picnic Parade :) Instead, today I wanted to showcase the fabulous foundations on which the picnic is set.

We all know that a good foundation is the basis of success for building. Houses. Relationships. Well, anything really! If the slab of concrete is not rock solid, everything else is wobbly. Much the same with picnicscapes (even it if just means tossing a magazine and a few stones on the rug corners to stop it flying around in the wind :) )

Anyhoo, case in point, would be the quintessential American backyard picnic table, an absolute classic example of bedrock good bone steadfastness!

This fabulous construction was a mainstay in most backyards of New England for a long time and, around Vermont, still enjoys a prolific status.

These days there are a lot of wonderful and imaginative picnic planks to enjoy…one of my absolute favourites would be this tree sculpture by artist Michael Beitz called Tree Picnic.  Just imagine having the family and friends around for lunch. Better make that a long lunch cos it might take a little while to pass the wine around :)

Or taking it to the water and paddling away the day in this, the pontoon table…

…which straight off the bat gets all sorts of points for just being a ridiculously insanely good idea :) Right up there with the gutter wine bottle holder that seems to be popping up (or rather, in to) nearly every other wooden picnic table I come across these days. Or maybe its just in New England parts of the woods where everyone seems to be a very adept DIYer. Mmm, thinking…thinking…

Anyhoo, and getting back on focus :) , for Urbanites its very easy to chic up the traditional picnic with a little bit of on trend moving-the-sitting-room-furniture-outside, loads of cushions and rigging a exotic drapy gazebo Prince of Aladdin type tent. CH, those fabulous Moroccan shoes of yours would be perfect for this space :)  …

And on the same blog I found this fabulous put-together-yourself picnic table. One dilemma there though, nobody wants to carry a palette to the beach (unless its beer :) )

But the one that caused a real light-bulb moment for me today would have to be this very very clever simple idea…
