…Love is in the air, everywhere I look around. Love is in the air, every sight and every sound…
Who can ever forget the lyrics to that JPY song from the early 80’s? His only hit wasn’t it? Doesn’t matter as it was a catchy feel-good tune that had the habit of staying on the mind. That, accompanied with the v-e-r-y tighty white T’shirt, constricted hip moves and long locks, and it has all the elements of a love trifecta of the era
So today is Valentines and I thought it appropriate to serenade the lovers and to celebrate the day of all things roses, candy and chocolate
Sigh…Yes, such a “Hallmark Holiday;” at least I think it is! I mean the day wasn’t even just named after the one chap, St Valentine: I understand there was a stable of contributors. But, in all fairness, it was a rather nice touch by the namesake saint to get the ball rolling when he provided the first sentiment to the day by signing a card to his sweetheart, Your Valentine.
And that’s it for my knowledge of the most romantic day in the history of the civilised world. Does anyone know any more? Anyone… 💕💕💕
Tinerate, manufactured celebration or not, (and if so, kudos to the savvy marketing team) AP refuses to buy roses on this day insisting that there is almost a 100% markup by florists simply because it is February 14! (And that’s what you get for marrying a numbers man )
It’s not all bad though, he does more than make up for it, surprising me with random bouquet and floral deliveries throughout the year. And my birthday flowers are always absolutely stunning and most often bigger than Ben-Hur. Very spoilt I know but like all girls, I love a bit of nature’s pretty colour splayed round the house.
Anyhoo, true to holiday format form, displays of amore and passion have been springing up all over New York with loads of Cupid cheer and arrowed hearts. (Not to mention the odd Guiness. Aye, but then the Irish are a wee bit of passionate crowd 💗 )
And then there is this, in my local florist, University Floral Design, who always has the most gorgeous stop-dead-in-your-tracks-cos-I-cant-take-my-eyes-off-you window fashions you have ever seen…well, uh, … until now
Whilst this has definitely got all the elements for bringing one to an abrupt halt, neither I nor the staff knew what the designers had in mind when creating.
I came up with ‘love you to bits’ (I know! Genius right ) OA behind the counter favoured ‘love hurts.’ So what do you think was the creative inspiration behind this floating spectacle? Do share…
Whatever, the display had done its job; we were all talking about it and thinking valentines 💖💖💖
Till next time.
