Chilling!

Always had a soft spot for a bit of sweet mood cool on a hot night …

…but I guess that is going to have to wait a while as I have just dropped back in to the true-blue bitter brr of the icy Adelaide winter with all its pelting rain, whipping winds, frosty mornings and frigid temperatures; both inside and out :)

And I have taken my cue from the not-quite-snow-but-sure-feels-like-it freeze so today will be all about the glacial blue and the fabulous inspirational tables to be done with this hue at this time of the year. Yes, the cool tone that is more often associated with the warmer months and miles of oceans!

Now, I am going to get a little distracted here (Moi??? Why never! :) ) but, again, do bear with me as eventually, promise, there shall be a worthwhile point :)

… Okay …I am just L O V I N G the chilling midnight blue of this dress worn by Naomi Watts to the Oscars earlier in the year and think it would relate brilliantly to a dramatic smoking jacket and cigar type roast dinner on a frigid formal Sunday afternoon. Ooo, does anyone remember those days when it was all about getting dressed up for the Holy Day? You know, with the ‘good’ dress reserved exclusively for Sunday best and the traditions of the day. Mmm…Anyone?…Anyone…?

Anyhoo, take that dress and transform to a tablecloth and Ta Daa! There’s the main feature. Pop it in a burgundy painted dining room with large pendant crystal chandelier (low lit of course!) and glittering silver candelabra…there’s enough wow there that the guests won’t care if sipping on canned soup :) To finish off the look, I’d probably add a whole bunch of low candles for a twinkling diamond effect.

Oh. So. Dreamy. :)

Another option might be to take a vivid blue and feather it up a la roaring 20’s and Chicago gangsta chicks. Use a feather centrepiece with plain white flowers (I feel it would be important to keep it simple as the feathers are statement enough) and blood red placemats. Maybe a blue feather tied to the linen serviette and, hullo White Christmas :)

My last inspiration of the day I have taken from Cate Blanchett’s (also Oscar) dress…

A sculptural couture confection, which resembled a flower garden frozen in crystals.

…lots to play with there right! Think aqua-marine tablecloth, add de-stemmed butterfly like flowers and scatter crystals and pearls amongst dozens of (again) low lit candles. Definitely use the good silver with the pearl handled knives and the family wine glasses that are so refined they play a little tune when rubbed around the brim (frightful habit isn’t it!) but are cut like no others to glitter in the soft light of the evening meal. Simple but stunning :)

Till next time.
