Isn’t it just fascinating that the weather is probably the one topic that never goes out of style. Mm, is it because it is completely safe? Maybe cos it affects us all? Or just because it is a tried and trusted fall-back-security-blanket staple when all other conversation has fizzled dry?
Whatever, today I am banging on about the perfect Spring (although it feels like that time ) Autumn temperatures we are experiencing this week. Dreamy highs in the mid 20’s (70’s in Fahrenheit) with sapphire blue skies and loads of sun. Pretty idyllic stuff really!
Tinerate, it is enough to have me thinking of hanging work and running outdoors for a nice long lunch … on a Tuesday!!! I know! Soo naughty! But I tell you, it’s the weather that makes me just want to toss responsibility to the wind and relax with a chardy under the Moreton Bay tree.
Which brings me to the burning questions of just why is it that tropical holidays and sunny weather are so often associated with the exotic drink? Okay … yes … admittedly always wine with dinner (no philistines here ) but around the pool or ordered to the seaside cabana, it is more than likely to be some fabulously coloured cocktail that is most probably not even heard of at home, let alone ever drunk Is that the romance of breaking from the 5 o’clock drinks hour; the feeling of freedom to do anything at anytime of the day because the sun is tickling the face, birds are singing and it is brilliant to be alive?
And, actually, now that I come to think of it, I guess the mixed drink is not so much a warm weather pleasure anymore (especially in the States where the cocktail often takes precedence over the crushed grapes as the pre-dinnery) and there are now a lot of scrummy concoctions on offer for the chillier times.
One of my fav magazines, Instyle, did a story recently on some wonderful Winter pours and in lieu of the season ahead, I thought I would share. What do you think of some of these fabulous libations? Do tell …
Till next time.
