Serendipitous Sunday

Waking up to a glorious Autumn chilled morning with a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y no clue as to what we might do to fill our day, AP and I thought it a good idea to head for the hills. Literally!

With no plans, no agenda, we drove Hugs & Kisses (best not to ask :) ) through the scenic but very winding roads of the Mt Lofty ranges and on up into the wine district. Completely spontaneous decision so no foresightful reservations anywhere, yet, despite being Sunday afternoon, we were fortuitous enough to happen upon vacancies at the picturesque Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard. So why is that? Even the gloriously chirpy maitre’d commented on the fact that normally they were packed to the rafters and we would have little hope of getting a seat but we in fact had stumbled upon them the one weekend that they had availability. We later found out that it had something to do with the Crows game and, as a sidebar, maybe Tasting Australia. Anyhoo, Go Crows! :)

Neither of us had been to this little  patch of paradise and because we are not in SA 24/7, did not know anything about it. I found it during a google search. AP liked the idea and off we went …. and, WOW! with breathtaking views, sensational food and wines we could not fault, sooo glad that we let the road take us (well, kind of … I know you get what I’m aiming for here :) )

Anyhoo, scoring a rock star table with the fire warming our backs and throw rugs (supplied by the winery) across our knees, we were roasty toasty as we sat sampling the wines that J … (who, just an aside, is one of 12 kids. Talk about champion parents!) … kindly brought to our table … (Uh huh! One smitten kitten in love with the personalised service!) … Surrounded by the most amazing views of the vineyard vines, slowly sipping seriously good drops, it was all just soo seductive! And yes, maybe a ploy to inspire one to buy more; I don’t know but I also don’t care! Oh and J did explain which vine was what but I am not sure now what was which; I was tasting after all :)

Tinerate, it was a truly relaxing day spent at a truly memorable establishment, enjoying truly delicious food. And the honourable mention, the first time for both AP and me that we truly liked every wine we tried! Thank you to all at Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyards for a truly spectacular day :)

Till next time.
