Outdoors In!

Recently I did a whole post on bringing the inside out, well, after a few days in NYC where I got the opportunity to check out a few of my favourite stores (retail therapy with bonus design distractions :) ) I realised that there is a big trend on bringing the outside in. Yes … right in … in as far as around the table!

Now bear with me for a moment cos I promise, although it seems as if I am, I am not stating the obvious! So we know the the rustic look of beamed walls and recycled credenzas, has been fashionable for a bit, (a la West End and like hipster chi chi stores touting the virtues of the recycled aesthetic) and that the wooden tables and floors never went out of style.

But what became quickly apparent is that the outside was now breaking the boundaries and boldly stepping in to the indoor dining space. Uh huh, the intimate family-gathering-nurturing-cum-nourishing epicentre of the home. And forget baby steps for this style … no siree, it’s arrived with a big ole ‘look at me’ leap that dominates the room with a confidence that only ever accompanies fabulousness! (think Madonna :) )

These striking pieces with origins from the garden have arrived at the table, carpet or not and looks, well, in a word, AWESOME! (loving the place ‘planks’ :) )

An indulgent ‘back to nature’ respite is a treat for us all at any time (even if only a stolen moment under a shady park tree) and the beautiful teak, limestone and cream earth tones so often used in the inside outdoor pieces are particularly calming. Line the table centre with a trio of cactus; fill in between each with a hodge podge of – preferably white – candles (def no riotous mixxy match!) and … Voila! Drop dead casual chic :)

Anyhoo, probably my most favourite (to date!) find of the whole outdoors inside revolution is this stunning giant weave chair by Ralph Lauren Home. So shrieks, “I should be outside but I’m waay too precious for that!’ don’t you think? To me, very reminiscent of the precocious Persian cat in the movie Babe who was soo good looking she got away with everything! Regardless, to me this table set is both inspiring and fresh fresh fresh :)

Another trend I am also really loving is the move towards all things wooden for the table and the earthy tones of the Andrew Pearce tablewares would have to be some of the most divine I’ve seen of late. Every piece in this range is handmade so, naturally, no two pieces of this exquisite collection is the same. ER and I were like a couple of kinds in a candy shop trying to make up our minds; problem is, we wanted it all!!!

Tinerate, so what are your thoughts on the whole blending inside with outdoor breaking-the-rules style that brings down all the barriers of what belongs where? Do tell?

Till next time.
