I am in an absolutely giddily bubbly mood! It is summer in Massachusetts with all the New England crayfish trimmings and on a picturesque sunny afternoon, I am walking down what has to be one of the prettiest streets in all, yes all, the world!
I’m in Boston with all its gorgeous cobblestone streets…
magnificent brick mansions with grand stoned entrances…
intricate metal lace work and purple glassed windows (which, BTW, came about by a complete treasured accident, a result of excessive manganese in glass panes shipped from London)…
Just sooo much chi chi elegance in this old city. Love it! In fact, I could happily live in this beautiful place. Oh wait! I already did
Anyhoo, my sister and family – RT, PT & next gen RT, – is visiting the USA for the first time so AP and I decided to play tourist and join them for a mini vacay. Very glad we did. It’s been a while since last back, in fact, too long, and am having too much fun showing off our once home-town and revisiting all our old haunts. In fact, today we have decided to treat ourselves to an old favourite; a divine little restaurant tucked away in fabulous Beacon Hill.
It is a locals bar (for want of a better word. Establishment seems too formal. Pub too casual. Restaurant not capturing the spirit) that has been around f.o.r.e.v.e.r so I am sure that I would be correct in calling it an institution, however, that said, it is not at all town hall-y, libraryish or anything like that. More so, it is in line with a Club whose had a changing of the guard with a hit of the refresh button
It is a unique oasis that the neighbouring residents regard as almost their own living room.
In fact, once whilst there, some bespeckled chap …(yes, it absolutely has to be a ‘chap’ if he is wearing glasses, bowtie and I’m talking Boston!)… zooms in from the house across the road, downs a Piglet whisky faster than a college kid playing drinking games and flies back to his apartment, all within minutes! Say what??? Myself and the few other patrons are all a little stunned however delightful SU manning the bar explains that this is normal. This particular gentleman does it all the time and tonight he had to get back as he was marinating something for dinner. Okaaay. Oh, and SU did mention that the first time she witnessed it, she was shocked as well! (Good to know )
Tinerate, with just a few more days in this culturally rich gloriously historical elegant paradise, we still have time to ‘pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd.’ (How’s my accent )
Till next time,
Tipsy Pipsy xo
