Phew! What a week this has been!

Not even officially the Festive Season yet (that starts tomorrow, December 1st. Oh wait, does November only have 30 days??? Oh gosh, I guess that means it started today…well, it wasn’t O.F.F.I.C.I.A.L. last night…), so, back on track…not even officially the season of glitter and tinsel yesterday and already the calendar is full. Love love love this time of year…Sunny skies, balmy breezes and christmas cheer in the lead up to sun, sand and sea of the long summer holiday.

Aah…

It’s the time before the time when the mass evacuation to the coast takes place and the city is deserted. With civilisation (okay, not entirely, but it can often feel like it ) gone for weeks on end to the sleepy shores of the holiday towns, the city stands quiet and lonely (actually a brilliant time to achieve some real productivity as the phone remains silent and no-one pops over but thats beside the point). A stark contrast to the sea shore where the curtains have been flung open, the wettex swept across the surfaces, and suitcases flung open across the floors…(or bed )

Bodies spill from decks, the Bose is cranked and the mood is pure revelry. How about a G&T with lunch? Jolly good idea! We do need to take some beer to the beach? But of course! So we’ll do drinks at your house at five then? Look forward to it and, after, lets wander down the road for dinner, I hear they have a fabulous wine list? Brilliant idea! And, naturally, a Pimm’s nightcap back at mine? Definitely! No wonder summer is a time for adding those extra kilos (or as my American friends would say, the Freshman Five. Only trouble is, very few of us are Freshman anymore. Oy Vey… )

This time of year is a very relaxed time filled with loads of laughter, fun and as little responsibility as possible. The January of the new year seems to have become a few treasured weeks of unwinding from the ‘now’ when life is a whirlwind of social and work commitments and decisions. A respite of sorts if you like

In this day of stress, angst and the unknown, I think we all deserve it.
