A Royal Affair!

‘Let’s go to Cartier’ 😘

Here in Australia, oh wait … more specifically, South Australia (I’m not sure if the whole country celebrated yesterday as this holiday is kind of a slippery one … Mmm …)

Anyhoo, here in South Australia, yesterday we celebrated the Queen’s birthday (and yes, I do know it’s actually in June and I really can’t explain just why we wait till October but at least you should get now what I mean by a sliding birthday)  …

… and with that I was reminded of some of the fabulous jewels I saw at the the Dior exhibit last week … (you know, Queen + tiara + jewels :) )

… which led my mind to stray to some of the most famous bling and glitter that has adorned some very lucky necks, fingers, earlobes and even heads! :) And then a small panic moment cos I realised I hadn’t got the jewels sorted for the Cup (Mm, let alone the dress!!! Oy vey …  :) )

But back to my mention of Dior, who I know was himself not a designer of jewellery but nonetheless, because he was most probably the most popular designer of an era when sparkle was worn with a resounding aplomb; the bigger the better – he would have definitely been an Influencer and trend setter.

At this time in history, it was quite the norm to adorn loads of sparkle … I mean even the housewife wore her pearly necklace as she fast tracked round the house with the Hoover (and all in heels :) )

And I guess Mr. Dior with his divinely bejewelled creations may have to be given some of the credit for popularising the trend …

But even so, it was considered completely normal to ‘dress’ and that involved the finishing touches of fine jewellery. Even a tiara if dressing for dinner and circumstance warranted! (Yes please :) )

It wasn’t till the 60’s I guess, with all its free living and loving and the casual lifestyle associated with it that the practice of dressing for dinner and consequently the jewellery worn with it, went by the wayside for the majority.

The new jeans and T shirts dress-down code of apparel didn’t call for the sparkling shiny finishes.

And think how so much easier it must have been to get the housework done sans diamond, emeralds and all the family shimmering brights :)

Tinerate, in response to our Maam’s day, I share some stunners that would most probably have looked quite at home at the time she adorned her own cavalry of precious stones and took the throne.

Whilst always spectacularly stunning, these days even when quietly matched with the appropriate expensed little couture number, around the dining table where ‘standard’ is now so often the level of aspiration/expectation, they are sure to shine bright and be the evenings conversation (nobody ever puts these jewels in the corner :) )

But never fear as beautiful bling will always hold its own … don’t you agree?

Till next time.

Tipsy Pipsy xo
