This is the island you dreamed of as a child when the storybook was closed. It’s as if you created your own private world and stepped barefoot into your imagination. With its white sand beaches, swaying coconut palms, colourful birds and sparkling lagoon…these islands are a dream paradise.
Today’s post comes to you as I am flying somewhere high over the Pacific, en route home to Adelaide. I am not sure where I am so I have decided I shall be over Hawaii and therefore make this blog all about tropical. Actually, more specifically, Polynesian tropical (so I might have just moved a little further west in my travels but I am pretty sure it will all be relative )
Actually, I have a life-long love affair with the South Pacific so I have made an executive decision and decided to be over Tahiti as per the Lux soap TV advertisement…the one on the Lear Jet with with lots of bubbles and the tag, ‘Tahiti looks nice…’
This particular island is still on my bucket list, and – just an aside – high up on the bucket list! When I was younger I had ambitions to sail through the South Pacific islands with my boyfriend, CP, who was an avid sailor and didn’t mind that I was more interested in the tan than the jib Unfortunately we never even made it to the Whitsundays before our blossoming love affair came to an end. Youth right!!!
Anyhoo, I then had another attempt at gracing the white sandy shores of the isle when AP booked us there for our honeymoon. Who knew that the French Secret Police were going to cause significant damage to the Greenpeace ship, Rainbow Warrior resulting in all Antipodeons being denied entry to any French territory without the appropriate visa??? Certainly not AP’s British travel agent! So we get to the airport all set to fly off to sun, sand and romance and…yep, he’s going alone
Well, obviously we didn’t land in Tahiti, but that did become my first trip to Hawaii. We spent a fabulous fortnight in a beach bungalow on the divine island of Maui where our most taxing job of the day was to extend a lazy arm and raise the little flag attached to the head of our sun lounge so the grass-skirted waitresses knew we needed another round. Tough I know but someone has to do it
The only other islands I have been fortunate enough to visit to date are Fiji (which is almost a right of passage for any Australian, or at least was when I was a kid) and Western Samoa. Aah, divinely unspoilt Western Somoa. All I can say is Aggie Greys! aggiegreys.com
Tinerate, this part of the world is certainly a destination to consider, don’t you think?
Signing off from somewhere up there
Till next time.
