Minutes, Moments & More Melbourne!

Morning marvellous Melbourne! (sorry; just couldn’t hold back on the cliche any longer :) )

Yes! I am still riding high on my few minutes and moments spent in Melbourne playing Tammy Tourist (unfortunately no Terry this trip) where I have wandered in and out of a few of its many crooks and crannies and done some wonderful discovering, sometimes thinking I had been transported to Europe …

especially with the amazing architecture…

And I love the juxtaposition of these buildings all mishmashed into the busy Swanston Street intersection

But in the city, the big attraction is the graffiti scribbled Hosier Lane. I am told it is ‘iconic’ to Melbourne so I went to do some investigating.

Interesting to say the least but not exactly rocking my boat so I decided to ask a couple of other tourists what their thoughts on the lane were. DF and her friend RW, both from the States and in their early 20’s, suggested it was rap inspired cool and the ‘freedom’ of the work inspirational but not necessarily ‘iconic’. And PO from the UK liked the ‘vibe’ but wasn’t taking too many photos. Good to know I wasn’t completely off track with my critique :)

Having said all that, I did love the wheelie bins although I can’t see Adelaide Council sharing my opinion on bin art :)

Tinerate, after walking through that, at the top of the lane I turn the corner to this…

…yes, complete change of personality but definitely more in line with the sophistication of the city. For which one doesn’t need to look very far. Whether it be in the legendary Botanical hotel (that we all drank at as students) and referred to as the Bot (probably still is!)…

Or down the street a few doors at this local bakery owned by the designer of the PAM label, a street-wise cool clothes collection

Anyhoo, one place we have all pounded the pavement would be Southgate but am guessing its most often with barely a hesitation in pace and nary a glance at whats beneath our tred as we dash to a girls lunch or the Arts Centre. Well this time, in keeping with my sightseer mode, I actually stopped long enough to admire (and even read) the dedication tiles to some of our great artists cemented in to the footpath.

And who remembers The Seekers? Georgie Girl. The Carnival is over. Those heavy black rimmed glasses :)

Am having too much fun living in the minute of the moment and discovering Melbourne in all its beauty all over again. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings :)

Till next time.
