Farm Fresh!

There is something completely intoxicating about strolling through a bustling farmers market filled with stall after stall of fabulous fresh produce! The whole notion of eating healthily resonates when the air is full of the scent of freshly cut mint and long stemmed scallions. And especially so on a warm summers day (actually, I take that back. This little shopping treat is one to be enjoyed any time of the year: fellow market shopper, LR, and I have had some of the most delicious meals after a winter’s morning at the market stocking up on local veggie farmer’s produce.

Inspired by Tuesday’s blog on Cathy Graham’s FABULOUS tablescape, (Tip Toe thru the Veggies!), I found myself wiling my way through Union Square yesterday when the Farmers Market was in full swing and I couldn’t help thinking about the delights of ‘growing our own’ and sitting down to a meal served with home-grown fresh food. You know, the whole have a little veggie garden in the back yard (or, as in most New Yorkers case – yes, I’ve become a Big City Chick for this post :) – a herb plot on the terrace cum balcony cum open window :) Failing all those options, some even have a small living wall in the apartment growing the essential parsley and dill!

The paddock to plate concept is booming right now and definitely goes hand in hand with the whole style in art concept of living. (And that would be a very smart way of incorporating the yoga, meditation, spirituality – maybe even alternate – lifestyle in one word. Okay, five if you don’t count the ‘of’ :) ) Anyhoo, as written about to exhaustion, stress is rife so we are doing what it takes to alleviate the burdens of just trying to exist and in the process have become completely open to trying new experiences as we do whatever it takes to make us feel good and keep us in optimum health. And why not? Seems like a plan to me :)

Tinerate, whilst buying my punnet of the plumpest looking strawberries I have seen in a while, I recalled the story told to me by my brother in law, PT, about when they were all glamping (trust me, I’ve heard how they camp :) ) somewhere in the boondocks of Outback Australia. Apparently they had only ‘healthy’ eats with them, no alcohol and lived like our ancestors in that they went to bed pretty much when the sun went down and rose at dawn. PT said he had never felt healthier in his life!

For a long time actors have been taught to ‘live in the moment.’ Interesting don’t you think that this idea which is the root of mindfulness (and is an aspect of the ‘style in art concept of living,’ way of living) actually did begin with the arts …

Anyhoo, it seems that the stage is now the playground of us all :)

Till next time.
