It’s a Retro Revival!!!

I made a tipsy pipsy pact not to talk about the weather and, sigh, that lasted for about a New York minute. But you see, it wasn’t really my fault as the pouring rain (spring rain, flowers we gain) and cloudy days of late had me thinking of the Fall fashions that were hitting the stores in NYC just before I left (Yes, it has been seriously cold … again!!!)

And then a recent blog post I happened upon today was almost like ‘ping,’ I need to chat about all things velvet!

Velvet. Thats right. Some of my fashionista friends are probably well aware of what the new season will bring forth and even though we are yet to get through Spring, let alone summer before these outfits hit our southern shores, I thought I would indulge in a little sneak peek of the 70’s vibe fashions heading our way.

Too much fun right? Oh, and loads of drama. But just before you get completely excited by the velvet crush, you need to know that it’s not only a fashion attire thing but … wait for it!!! … velvet has slip slided its way in to the every day as well. Uh Huh. Everything – and I do mean that nothing is off limits – is coming up velvety.

Sofas, curtains, well, the lot are all indulging in this surprisingly versatile material which actually looks a whole lot more luxurious (not too mention ‘feels’ kind of scrummy too ) than other textiles.

And it certainly doesn’t hurt that this glamorous option has royal roots! This was so because of the cost involved in production and therefore only the wealthy were able to afford it. Nobles in particular loved its sheen.

Anyhoo … what do you think of the retro trend? Spectacular or prefer to give it a wide berth? Do tell … Personally, I think I’m having a bit of a velvet crush
