Vibrant colour is everywhere right now and that’s well and truly before any filter fiddling is done.
I think it’s all about the light and yes, I know I’ve posted about this before but that was from a Southern Hemisphere point of view. And there is a difference. On the other side of the equator (to where I currently sit ) it is a brighter, fiercer more intense sunray beam than the soft almost filtered gleam of illumination up here in the Americas.
Down south, the rays are so piercingly brutal that the vegetation is often left gnarled and faded. Trodden down and dulled as if exhausted from the exertion of battling against the harsh elements. In the north, with the softer almost nurturing light, it seems to translate to lush fluffy velvet-like growth. The life (and consequently the colour) has not been sucked out as the plant struggles to survive in the unforgiving arid environment (and obviously I am not talking about out west but rather the clime of the north eastern states!)
Anyhoo, everything looks more alive with chrome-like colour and seems to pop with a ‘is-that-truly-real’ quality.
Another thought as to why the colours might appear so vivid at this moment, (at least in the florals and more so than what we think we see in the southern hemisphere) may be …and just an aside, this isn’t based on anything scientific but then, how often is my research … but just may be because the winters up north are so bitterly cruel with cold, with the freezing chill killing off all vegetation which then remains dormant (usually in frozen soil under a blanket of snow) for the remainder of the season. Mmm, thinking…thinking…
Or maybe it is in the presentation of the products.
Whether it be fruit …how quickly would a punnet of ruby red strawberries presented in small wooden crates and staged on bright green checks, whisk off the Country General Store’s shelf???
Uh huh...veeerry savvy marketing
And a pretty burst of flower box color to make you smile and entice customers indoors…
Or just an everyday colourful find, set in inspiring rock ambience that evokes history and romance…
Anyhoo, on careful reflection I am pretty sure that there is no shortage of this dizzy dazzling display of all things bright in the south; I just haven’t looked with the right eye. Note to self, take time to smell the roses!!!
Or at least to appreciate an emerald forest carpet
Till next time.
