Tootling (…Oh Gosh! Say What??? Where in the relics of memory did that word pop up from??? Have I morphed in to my mother whilst sleeping??? Does anyone even use that word anymore??? eek!!! Surprise! Surprise! Big breath… 
…) Soo, tinereate…tootling for these last few days around the hot, hazy and humid that is at this moment NYC, I keep stumbling upon wonderful little havens of fresh fun and happy, especially for the summer stressed soul.
And the common thread (quite literally) seems to be the napkin fashioned on the old-fashioned patterned British tea towel. (But am guessing it is not of the same ilk as this highly coveted drying tool which I am not even sure is even made in the UK anymore. Oh wait, is that even correct. Is it still the United Kingdom since Brexit??? Mmm, thinking…thinking…. Anyhoo, totally sidetracked and off point…) This wonderful serviette is proving to be the star of many a table…
Uh huh! Pulled straight from mum’s kitchen towel rack right!
My mum often had about three of these lined up ready to towel dry the dishes but the dishwasher always seemed the more sanitary means of ‘doing the dishes’ to me Or failing that, ‘drip dry’ was another great option!
Anyhoo, back to summer sizzler sanctuaries, it’s not just the dish towels similarities in these delightful diners but also the bright and cheerful warm weather blues, reds and yellows of the season; each evoking images in the imagination of refreshing dips in an aquamarine ocean or champagne tippled sunsets on the beach (or maybe I’ve gone off on another tangent and its just my active mind Mmm, thinking…thinking…) In short, and back to point, evoking calm and peaceful relaxation with other thoughts optional!
And then of course, the use of tree planks as tables. Very effective at inducing the casual comfort vibe…
But it’s not all summer breezy cruisy, even at this time of year! There is still of course the very very swish Butler Service in some traditional (and remarkable) dining establishments however, the more popular but still very respectable choice of many renowned fine eateries is Silver Service…
And what with Family Service and Plated Service, a girl just doesn’t know what to do!
Ooo…soo many choices…loads of decisions… I think I need to come back
