Undone Glamour!

13407098_1607334899577283_1638520951965030462_nNo sooner than I finish posting about the very popular style of table decor that a lot of dining spots here in NYC seem to have adopted, but an email pings in to my inbox filled with all sorts of fabulous ideas, and a W H O L E article explaining the appeal and sophistication of the new look sweeping the summertime East Coast: Undone Glamour. That’s right, there is apparently a name for the tea-towel and plank look that I wrote about in Fresh, Fun & Happy! Who knew??? Anyhoo, I’m just soo excited to be so cluelessly on trend :)

There are all sorts of ways to think about this concept…undone in this context brings to mind (well, at least my mind) beautiful that is scaled down, not showy or pretentious but still very stunning in its simplicity or complete naturalness. As in the fabulous Matthanenge that happened last week. This magnificent occurrence of nature which happens only twice a year when the setting sun is aligned with the east-west streets of the main grid of Manhattan. How ‘undone’ is it to be wedged between the buildings of a concrete jungle yet glamorous in it’s ethereal beauty. And, just an aside, the slab of bitumen road and crowd dressed in T’shirts and shorts certainly helps with the ‘undone’ aspect :)

Other, maybe more predictable ways of thinking about Undone Glamour (and I am not one for predictability which is most probably why this didn’t pop into my head first off :) ) would be to say it was things that are not done, not accomplished or not yet completed.

And yes, maybe the general idea is in tune with the usage for this purpose of the term but taken literally, this definition (in my opinion) is not in line with the vision. For all intents and purposes, it is finished, accomplished and definitely done…just in an understated and sometimes eclectic manner.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a big fan of Undone Glamour according to Instyle Magazine (unfortunately I haven’t had a moment to catch up with her personally to check that out but GP, if free this week, I’m available :) ) with her take on it being…

“I like to balance some old-school proper vibes and a lot of relaxed casualness. For the table I gravitate toward a muted palette – lots of grays , whites and some soft pinks or lilacs.”

As written in Instyle, her dining philosophy for a successful party brims with warmth and elegance.

Tinerate, I am particularly drawn to this look and love that it works at anytime of day, or way…
