Scene Stealers!

This kind of weather is absolutely ideal for cocooning in the warmth of home, wrapped in cashmere comfort in front of a roaring fire, all whilst watching re-run after re-run of the classic Golden Years of Hollywood movies on TCM. Aah, nirvana right :)

high-society

Okay, maybe not to all, but for me, I love nothing better than settling in to a classic vintage story or find nothing more glamorous than a close-up-ready intrigue (especially in design) inspired by a classic Hollywood film. So, today I am paying homage to an article that I recently read in Veranda magazine which attributed the decor to a room, however, I was so inspired, I took it to the table…

I begin with the absolute cult classic, High Society. The movie starring Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra, which subsequently enabled the American teenager-of-the-time viewership for two reasons: firstly, the guys all wanted to be with Grace and the girls with Frank. But, more importantly, the girls all wanted to be Grace Kelly (you know, a fabulous movie star…marry a prince…live in a castle in Europe :) ) and the boys all could picture themselves as Frank crooning and wooing the ladies from Los Angeles to Monaco. It also helped that this particular film is the total epitome of life. No cares. Lots of love. Buckets of champagne. Tweety birds fluttering gently against a cheek. (Okay, maybe not the latter :) )

Anyhoo, so the scene is the pelmeted curtained (of course :) ) formal dining room of a great American manse in which stands a shiny mahogany table, loads of sterling silver, with lots of sit-up-ram-rod straight high back chairs. (They were always so uncomfortable weren’t they, but everyone seemed to want have them!)  This is a table in which the best crystal is used and even the gold rimmed heirloom china. Think La-dee-da :)

Tinerate, if getting really serious about the tables of this fashion, the shining star would have to be Jacqueline Kennedy during her White House days … (actually maybe all her life??? Ooo, thinking…thinking…Can anyone help me there??? Anyone???) … and this one photograph which is really the quintessential icing-on-the-cake of all things High Society.

So what do you think…does this iconic movie set translate to Spectacular tablescapes? Doo tell :)

Till next time.
