Cat’s Meow!

Sometimes it is terrific to break with tradition but you know what, when it all comes down to it, the tried and trusted is very very (dare I stress with even another :)very hard to beat!

And why? Most probably because it is ensconced in the tried and trusted of good taste and class (no airy pinkys here thank you very much :) ) and awash with  many many years of social etiquette backing from the poshest of nobles, the old money gentry, the crusty class snobs, the politely mannered suits, the well meaning and even the misguided but good intentioned nouveau-riche :) Well yes … the whole kit and caboodle of the moneyed set really!

So it was with a jolt of pleasure I stumbled upon the inspiration for today’s blog … the extremely traditional but always in style preppie outfit worn by Karlie Kloss. And, just an aside, (I’m very good at side-stepping aren’t I :) ) the fact that she is a supermodel of ridiculous proportions, height not the least outstanding, did not induce judgement at all! In fact I saw her outfit as smart and refreshing and before I knew it, in my mind it had translated to a tablescape; most probably one for tea with the tennis girls :)

All about being smart but comfortably casual, I envisioned a crisp white tablecloth with an azure blue and white striped runner and three (always work in odds :) ) vases spilling over with bunches of cobalt moody blue hydrangeas. Too add a bit of chi chi zing, I would definitely be using the understated (but still divine) stainless steel Laguiole by Jean Dubost Raffine cultery set which is all the rage at the moment … well, maybe since 1859. Good thing I am a quick study and catch on to these trends at the outset :)  (And, btw, can soo understand why this flatware is such a hot commodity!)

Tinerate, as for the napkins, blue in the same hue with a field fresh floral in white popped on top. Mmm, no sooner do I finish envisioning the tea table and I am already wondering whether a blue tablecloth, same striped runner, ditto for centrepieces, white napkins with a small sapphire bloom as garnish might be better. Ooo, decisions decisions … What do you think? :)

But it’s not only Karlie that has got my imagination doing tablescape cartwheels, Demi Moore’s formal take also had me trimming the table as well.

This time I used a tomato red tablecloth and decorated it with a thickly striped blue and white runner. I wanted the bolder tone of the runner to stand on its own against the attention grabbing ruby of the table. For flowers, I favoured using field gathered posies mixed with any of the three colours of the table: white, blue and red. With so much already going on, the glassware needs to be simple crystal and the napkins in blue with white name cards; would you agree? Do tell …

Anyhoo, all looks fabulous in the theory of my minds eye. Now I shall just have to try them out.

Till next time.
