Hippity Hop To It!

Easter is all about the bunny rabbit, right? Or, in Australia the bilby as immortalised by Ali Garnett and Kaye Kessing in Easter Bilby. Well … yes … but not entirely! There is also a large dosing of family, food and Ta Daa, the tabletop!

In my home country, this holiday is almost as big as Christmas and because it is a whole wonderful decadent l-o-n-g four days (the Super long weekend :) ), the table is going to be on display for many different meals. So what to do to add variety to the surrounds; I mean, just how to change up the one space???

Oh wait! I just had a brilliant idea. Maybe two tables could be decorated for the Easter break? One in the kitchen for the breakfast meal of hot cross buns, porridge and more, and then the dining room for the traditional Easter Sunday lunch.

I’d definitely be going with the down-home relaxed country cum rustic feel for the kitchen table in the early morning. Everyone needs a generous dose of comfort and as much warming nourishment as possible in the a.m. :) A casually pulled together posy set in a pretty pottery vase emits this vibe very successfully but should you want something a bit more up-market, why not try moss covered eggs. Seriously! Although very much of a back-to-nature feel, placed on crystal or silver the whole look will be instantly elevated.

Then for the ‘main’ table in the dining room … Ah, well, the whole world is your oyster (so to speak :) ) … but narrowing it down, I’d go for the tried and trusted eggs as the centrepiece. There is literally a squllion ways to play here but for the sake of simplicity (and, depending what else is adorning the tabletop cos if it is already busy it doesn’t want to compete!) I would either stack or hang them. Yes! Hang them like a tree! (Well, I did mention Christmas earlier :) ) Fun right and thinking a little out of the box from a bowl full of eggs and this time of the year!

If all this is just a wee bit formal for the occasion, how about taking it outside and using something that is completely playful chic, like this tiered burlap tablecloth. (Unusual and a bit reminiscent of a lady’s vintage bustle; soo unexpected and working it!)

Anyhoo, the burlap looks brilliant with bold colours so the fuchsia pinks and striking yellows are an excellent choice for decorations and very much ‘feel good’ tones that are in keeping with the happy celebration, don’t you think? And, a bit of a bonus, what with the riotously loud hues used on the wrapping of eggs these days, there will be absolutely no problem with colour coordination :)

Tinerate, whatever your plans for the extended break, be sure it includes loads of chocolate :)

Wishing you a Happy Easter!

Till next time.
