Holiday Mode!

After the fabulous four day Easter break, I am still just soo in holiday mode :) I completely love the permissive freedom that vacation gives to avoid responsibility and disconnect from all things, not least technology! It’s a lovely little escape from all things grown up (well, almost) and a chance to regroup life and priorities whilst doing absolutely nothing. Or, at the very least, only things one wants to do :)

The biggest decision for the day when on vacation, I believe, should always be, ‘so where are we going to eat tonight?’ (learn’t that one from my mum :) ), which is of course, closely followed by the biggie, ‘so what cocktail do you want?’ All of these tough options arriving on top of already strenuous, if lazily made, plans as to what to do for the day. The latter most usually fomented the night before whilst lying in bed waay past bedtime reading the very latest hot off the presses novel. Absolutely no turning the lights off at a sensible time when on holiday! I mean, why would you? There’s all day to snooze tomorrow should one want :)

As if taking cue from the serene of the surrounds, (in this case, the Australian bush) everything is relaxed on vacation, including meals. Now I’m not saying that the menu is of a pared down grab-a-pastie-from-the-bakery category. In fact, it is often quite the opposite and is more of the gourmet stratosphere type cos on vacation there is always the magic element of time … time to plan and prepare a fabulous meal … but the ambience of the holiday meal is most often family-friendly relaxed and inviting.

During those holiday times, the dinner table becomes a gathering point for friends with great casual food that complements the environment (bush or beach) and the meals take on an air befitting the occasion. Even the formal Canton aux Cérises has a note of carefree attributed to the anything-goes-sing-song-spontaneous joviality of a break from the routine.

Anyhoo, with the wrap of Easter and now perched on the horizon of my beckoning real life, I am savouring my last few hours enjoying the bliss of the bush.

Till next time.
