Found It!

So its been a long time since I’ve done a post like this, (Yes Please!), not sure why that is but guessing it has a lot to do with not attending many open houses of late and when have, finding nothing that has been – in my little ‘ole opinion – completely spectacularly outstanding it sooo needs to be shared. That is until now :)

Today I wandered into a home that has me seriously considering moving to the sunny sloping burbs of Sydney. Uh huh, for this moment in time I think I have Found It; that place to call home (Well, until the next captivating Open House of course :) )

Anyhoo, an Open House banner beckoned in the breeze and, like the proverbial moth to the flame, I was drawn inside. I don’t know about you but my curiosity is always piqued when I come across a blatant invitation to have a bit of a snoop and I do just love to see what folks do with their homes. There is just soo much creative imagination out there that I am not going to pass up any opportunity for inspiration!

Tinerate, soo glad I did! Being not from around these parts, this house was nothing like I had ever seen and, for the record, nothing like I expected from the facade.

You see, with parts of Sydney being built on a series of hills, to the casual observer, it would be a fair statement to suggest that the majority of blocks were of ‘adequate but nothing to write home about’ size. Translation; no McMansion lurking behind those towering doors. But one forgets about the use of heights and levels. however, once within the boarded walls (a lot of Sydney homes seem to be made of weatherboard) it is apparent that the home is deceivingly E-N-O-R-M-O-U-S! In this case, so much so that it became a bit of a “But wait: there’s more” kind of a thing :)

But it wasn’t the size of this little big gem that impressed me, it was the design! Entry is up a substantial but tasteful sandstone stairway (nothing unusual there) and into an absolutely stunning glass walled hallway. Yes! Its like you know your inside but maybe your not! This is cleverly doable because the home is cut into the side of the hill so with the glass on two sides of you as you step through the front door the outside moves in, giving the impression that the rock of the hill is in fact the hall entranceway. As you can imagine, extremely effective (and disconcerting after a few champagnes :) )

Flowing over three levels the house featured spacious open plan living areas with seamless in/outdoor integration … Wide north facing verandahs that commands superb water panoramas … Upper lever master retreat with own balcony and ocean views …

And the other bit that really got me, a fabulous glass sided swimming pool that just sat on the deck, smack-bang behind the bi-folding doors. Talk about a feature :)

SPECTACULAR! don’t you think? Now to rustle up the $8.9 million the Singaporean owners are wanting cos I am loathe to pay the $4000 a week in rent, no matter how divine that swimming pool :)

Till next time.
