Simple Sittings

Has anyone else noticed the burgeoning trend for table centrepieces? From the gala event to to the intimate wedding, there is a predominance of no dominance. In short, the floral centrepiece has gone from a big showy eye popper that dominates not only the table but the entire room, to a very petite sweet floral tuft that whispers in its fragility.

Whilst this decorating trend has been appearing on restaurant tables for some time now, I am coming across simple displays of decorations more and more at the private functions (as in the aforementioned weddings) and personal gatherings (from the girls lunch through to the celebratory birthday party!)

There appears to be no rules as to what works best where and when, and I like that hosts are feeling liberated from tradition in their choices. Not that the days of the towering bouquet has become extinct (that will never happen in my time :) ) but these days it is not uncommon for even the most lavish of nuptial celebrations to have tablescapes gorgeously scaled back for a more simple sitting.

In my little ole’ book, both can be very effective in giving a dramatic pop to an event. Not to mention the surprise that simplicity can often bring.

The bohemian rustic trend is on par with the back-to-basics natural look that is happening amongst the millinials and, as with the Rosé obsession, (First Blush) being driven to become popular with the populace! Maybe mainly because its impossible to ignore the voices of the generation that receives the most marketing attention and have been raised under the mantra of ‘you can do whatever you want to do,’ ‘you are special’ which has led to the overwhelming confidence of the millenniums. Actually a wonderful character attribute to lay claim to, especially when wanting to think out of the box, and a sure-fire way to having the courage to carry through.

Anyhoo, both arrangements are still spectacular crowd stoppers don’t you think? Or does a hint of wispy floral only rate as so-so standard for you? Do tell :)

Till next time.
